Explain two pricing plans to a buyer in plain words

Practice: Saying who it's for. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

A small nonprofit's office manager asked which plan they need. Explain the two plans in exactly 2 numbered lines (one per plan), then one line with your recommendation based on what she told you, showing the monthly math for her team size. Under 90 words, plain text, and no software jargon ('seat', 'SLA', 'tier', 'provisioning'). Write a prompt that gets that answer.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 90 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "Each line under 22 words."
  • Comparing everything. The AI lists every feature difference in a table, which she didn't ask for. Try: Show it: "Exactly 2 numbered lines, one per plan, then one recommendation line."
  • Recommending without her reason. The AI recommends a plan without tying it to what she said matters, or uses the old 15% discount. Try: Add: "Recommend Plus because she needs phone support. Show 12 x $18 = $216, minus 20% = $172.80."
  • Talking like a salesperson. AI pricing answers say "per seat" and "premium tier", which she won't follow. Try: Ban them: "No seat, SLA, tier or provisioning."
  • Forgetting where it gets pasted. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as ** and # clutter in her email. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Says who it's for
  • Ties it to her need
  • Shows the math
  • Bans jargon
  • Asks for plain text
