Answer a big discount ask with two priced options

Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

A prospect asked for 25% off. Reply under 120 words with exactly 2 numbered options you're actually allowed to offer, each showing the per-seat math for 40 seats at the current list price. Decline the 25% in one plain sentence, and end by offering a call on Thursday at 11 am or Friday at 2 pm Eastern, the two slots you have open. Write a prompt that gets that reply.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 120 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "Each option one line under 25 words; other sentences under 15 words."
  • Not showing the options as a list. The AI blends the offers into a paragraph that's hard to compare. Try: Show the shape: "Format each like: 1. 10% off, 2-year: $52 x 0.90 = $46.80/seat, $1,872/month."
  • Using the old price. Your notes include last year's $48 price. Without being told, the AI may use it. Try: Say it: "Use the current $52 list price."
  • Softening the no too much. The AI hints that more might be possible or brings up the 20% deals. Try: Add: "Decline 25% in one sentence. No other discounts; don't mention past deals."
  • No clear next step. The AI ends with "Let me know your thoughts!" instead of a time. Try: Add: "End by offering Thursday 11 am or Friday 2 pm Eastern."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Sets a word limit
  • Says how many options
  • Uses the current price
  • Asks to show the math
  • Gives the call times
