Make your case for an open sales territory with real numbers
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're applying internally for the open Northwest territory. The form asks why you're the right fit, under 80 words. Open by naming the requisition, NW-AE-27, give your quota attainment with the corrected figure, one relevant account win, and your start-date availability from your notes. Skip clichés ('closer', 'hunter', 'crushing it', 'rockstar'). First person, plain text. Write a prompt that gets that answer.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 80 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "4 sentences, each under 18 words."
- Using last week's number. The notes mention the dashboard's 96% before ops fixed it. Try: Say it: "Open with NW-AE-27. 2026 attainment is 104% through October."
- No territory connection. The AI lists general wins instead of the Portland account that matters here. Try: Add: "Name the Cascade Freight win in Portland, $180k a year."
- Sales clichés, no date. AI answers call you a "proven closer" and forget when you can start. Try: Add: "I can start Jan 5. No closer, hunter, crushing it or rockstar."
- Forgetting where it gets pasted. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as ** and # clutter in the application form. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
