Explain a loyalty program change without upsetting regulars
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your coffee shop's loyalty program is changing, and you need a sign by the register. Write exactly 3 numbered lines, each under 14 words: what changes and when, what happens to points people already have, and the one new perk. Then a last line with the date points expire, if any. Plain text, no emojis, no 'exciting news'. Write a prompt that gets that sign.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Writing an announcement. The AI writes a cheerful paragraph that no one reads in line. Try: Set it: "Exactly 3 numbered lines, each under 14 words, then an expiry line."
- Leaving out the no-app option. The AI says 'download our app', which loses your older regulars. Try: Say it: "Line 1: app or just your phone number at checkout."
- Using the draft date. The notes mention Feb 28 before the owner changed it. Try: Add: "Punch cards are honored until March 31."
- Hype and emojis. AI signs start with "☕ Exciting news!" Try: Add: "No emojis, no 'exciting news'. Plain text."
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets the number of lines
- Mentions the no-app option
- Uses the right date
- Bans hype
- Asks for plain text
