Explain a new late-work policy on one slide for 9th graders
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're putting your new late-work policy on a slide for 9th graders. Write exactly 3 numbered rules, each under 10 words, using the updated policy, in words a 14-year-old uses. Then one last line that starts 'Exception:' with the one exception. Plain text, no title, no emojis. Write a prompt that gets that slide.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Writing a handout. The AI writes a full page with a title, a rationale and examples. Try: Set it: "Exactly 3 numbered rules, each under 10 words."
- Mixing old and new rules. The notes include the old policy and the draft's 3 extensions. Try: Say it: "Use the new policy: 5% a day, 3 days, then 50%; 2 extensions."
- Forgetting the exception. The AI may drop the accommodations rule or bury it in a paragraph. Try: Add: "Last line starts 'Exception:' for IEP and 504 plans."
- Slide clutter. AI adds a title like "📚 New Late Work Policy!" and a motivational line. Try: Add: "No title, no emojis, nothing else. Plain text."
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets the number of rules
- Uses the new policy
- Adds the exception line
- Says who it's for
- Asks for plain text
