About this exercise
You're reporting October AP performance to the controller. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "On-time rate:", "Average days to pay:", "Discounts taken:" and "Note:". Count invoices only, not the credit memo application. Show the math on the first three lines. The Note line names one thing to confirm with AP, as a question, with no blame. Under 90 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Counting the credit memo. The AI divides by 9. Try: Say: "Count invoices only, not the credit memo."
- Missing the sum. The AI states 32 days with no working. Try: Add: "Show the sum of days divided by 8."
- Blaming AP. The AI says the team missed discounts through carelessness. Try: Add: "Note: one question to confirm, no blame."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each part short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the four lines
- Excludes the credit memo
- Asks for the math
- Frames the note as a question
- Caps length
