Record a card cash-back credit as a balanced entry

About this exercise

You're recording the October card cash-back credit. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "Debit:", "Credit:", "Support:" and "Check:". Per company policy, card cash-back is recorded as Other income (7100). The annual card fee is a separate item, not part of this entry. The Check line shows debits equal credits. Under 60 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Netting the annual fee. The AI mixes the $95 fee into the entry. Try: Say: "The annual fee is a separate item; leave it out."
  • Reversing debit and credit. The AI credits the payable. Try: Add: "Debit Credit Card Payable; credit Other Income."
  • Skipping the check. The AI doesn't prove the entry balances. Try: Add: "A Check line: debits equal credits."
  • Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each part short.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the four lines
  • Names the accounts
  • Leaves out the fee
  • Asks for a balance check
  • Caps length
