About this exercise

You're a small business owner's bookkeeper preparing a response to a card chargeback. Write a prompt for plain text with one checklist line per evidence item in the form "[ ] Item (owner, have or need) - due Nov 9", followed by a last line "[ ] Submit response (Ravi) - due Nov 12". Gather dates are three days before the response deadline. Do not predict whether the dispute will be won. Under 100 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Wrong due dates. The AI uses the notice date or invents dates. Try: Say: "Gather by Nov 9, three days before the Nov 12 deadline."
  • Predicting the outcome. The AI says the evidence makes a win likely. Try: Add: "Do not predict whether the dispute will be won."
  • Marking have vs need wrong. The AI labels everything as needed. Try: Add: "Mark each item have or need from the notes."
  • Wrong format. The AI writes a table or bullets. Try: Add: "Each line like: [ ] Item (owner, have or need) - due Nov 9."
  • Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each part short.

What a strong prompt includes
