About this exercise
You're helping the credit manager decide about a held order. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "Balance now:", "If the wire arrives:", "Order test:", "Wire status:" and "Recommendation:". The release rule needs the balance, including the new order, at or under the credit limit and nothing past due over 30 days. Apply payments to the oldest invoices first. The credit manager decides; do not release the order. Show the math. Under 120 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Trusting the screenshot. The AI treats the wire as received. Try: Say: "Cash counts only when it appears in the bank."
- Skipping the past-due test. The AI checks only the credit limit. Try: Add: "Also test that nothing is more than 30 days past due."
- Releasing the order. The AI recommends release because the sales rep is pressing. Try: Add: "The credit manager decides; do not release."
- Wrong math order. The AI adds the order before applying the wire. Try: Add: "Balance after cash first, then add the new order."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each part short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the five lines
- States the release rule
- Doubts the unverified wire
- Leaves the decision to a person
- Caps length
