About this exercise
You're preparing the October warranty provision. Write a prompt that fills in a plain-text template, one field per line, labeled Line A provision, Line B provision, Required provision, Booked provision, Additional entry, Debit, Credit and Sign-off. Show the math on the first five fields. Use the current rate for each product line. Any change to a warranty estimate needs Controller sign-off; the Sign-off line says so. Under 100 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the old rate on line B. The AI applies 1.5% everywhere. Try: Say: "Use the revised line B rate of 3.0% from Oct 1."
- Booking the whole provision again. The AI books $10,500 on top of the $8,250. Try: Add: "Additional entry = required minus already booked."
- Forgetting sign-off. The AI leaves out approval. Try: Add: "Sign-off: Controller approves any estimate change."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each part short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Lists the eight labels
- Uses the current rates
- Asks for the math
- Names the accounts
- Caps length
