Turn your activities into first-resume bullets that stay true
- For High school students
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You're 16 and applying to be a cashier at Greenleaf Market, your first real resume. You need exactly 5 bullets starting with "- ", under 90 words in total, plain text, and only the bullets: no objective, no summary and no extra sections. Everything must be true, including what your role on the soccer team really was and the volunteer hours your counselor confirmed.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Letting a title get inflated. The AI sees 'captain' in your notes and makes you team captain because it sounds better. Try: Add: "I was a JV team member, not captain. Don't call me captain."
- Missing the corrected hours. The AI may use 60 hours, the first number it sees, even though your counselor confirmed 40. Try: Add: "Use 40 volunteer hours, the confirmed number."
- Getting a whole resume template. Ask for a resume and the AI builds headings, an objective and a list of strengths, with far more than 5 bullets. Try: Be exact: "Output only 5 bullets, nothing before or after."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each bullet: "each bullet under 14 words."
- Forgetting where it's going. AI adds bold and headings that show up as stray symbols in the application form. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
