Compare two summer jobs by what you'd actually keep
- For High school students
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You have two summer job offers and want the one that leaves you the most money for a used car. Get exactly 3 numbered lines, under 80 words, plain text: line 1 shows the pool job's pay minus costs, line 2 shows the ice cream shop's, and line 3 starts "Pick:" with one job and the reason. Use the corrected hours, and remember you'd have to buy the lifeguard class.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the updated hours. The AI may use 25 hours a week, the first number in your notes. Try: Add: "Scoops is 30 hours a week now, per the manager's text."
- Forgetting the costs. The AI compares hourly pay and skips the class fee and bus pass. Try: Add: "Subtract the $200 class and the $40 bus pass."
- Getting 'it depends'. Without your goal, the AI lists pros and cons and leaves the choice to you. Try: Add: "Most money left wins. Pick one."
- Getting a long comparison. AI comparisons come as tables and paragraphs. Try: Show it: "1. Pool: $15 x 240 hours = $3,600 - $200 class = $3,400"
- Forgetting where it's going. AI adds bold and headings that show up as stray symbols in a text to your parents. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes

- Subtracts the costs
- States the goal
