Check a job posting against your background with clear labels

  • For Job seekers
  • You practice Catching mistakes and made-up facts
  • Time about 5 minutes

About this exercise

Before you apply, you want an honest read on how you match a posting. Get exactly 5 numbered lines, one per requirement in the posting's order, each formatted "1. Requirement: Yes / Partly / No - reason" using exactly one of those three labels, under 120 words, plain text. Base it only on your notes, and remember the posting was updated.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Asking for a pep talk. Ask 'am I a good fit' and the AI says yes with enthusiasm, skipping the gaps. Try: Add: "Check each requirement and label it Yes, Partly or No. Be honest about gaps."
  • Missing the update. The AI may grade you against the degree requirement that was removed. Try: Add: "The degree requirement was removed on Oct 30."
  • Not giving the exact labels. Without fixed labels, the AI writes 'strong match' and 'could highlight', which don't help you decide. Try: Show it: "1. 1+ year customer-facing: Yes - reason"
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each line: "each reason under 14 words."
  • Forgetting where it's going. AI adds bold and headings that show up as stray symbols in your job tracker. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
