Announce a feature sunset with the notice period worked out

About this exercise

Write the customer notice for a feature sunset as exactly four lines starting "What:", "When:", "What to do:" and "Help:". When includes the sunset date and the days of notice, worked out from the dates. Do not give the internal reason. Plain text, under 90 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Sharing the internal reason. The notes include the maintenance cost. Try: Add: "Do not give the internal reason."
  • Wrong notice period. The AI counts months instead of days. Try: Say: "Work out the days of notice: 21 + 31 + 31 + 7 = 90."
  • Marketing tone or wrong layout. The AI uses 'Exciting news' and writes paragraphs. Try: Name the four labels; plain, no hype.
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Asks for plain text
  • Sets a length limit
  • Names the labels
  • Bans the internal reason
