Follow up a passive NPS score with two open questions
- For Customer success managers
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write a follow-up email to Dev, who scored us 7. Line 1 is "Subject:" with 6 words or fewer. Ask exactly two open-ended questions, numbered 1 and 2. Mention the Oct 20 report speed update in one clause. No survey link, no incentive, under 70 words, plain text, last line exactly "Imani".
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Adding the survey link. Marketing's note pushes the AI to attach the survey. Try: Add: "No survey link, no incentive."
- Asking yes/no questions. The AI asks 'Are you satisfied with reports?' Try: Say: "Open-ended only: start with What or How."
- Missing structure. The AI writes a long email with extra questions. Try: Say: "Exactly two numbered questions, subject under 6 words."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
- Asks for open questions
- Bans the link
