Ask a happy customer for an intro without pressure
- For Customer success managers
- You practice Getting the tone right
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write an email asking Sofia, an NPS 10 promoter, for one introduction to a peer. Line 1 is "Subject:" with 6 words or fewer. Plain text, under 85 words. Quote her praise in your own words, ask for a single intro, and make it easy to say no. Offer no gift, credit or discount. Last line exactly "Rahul".
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Mentioning the referral credit. Marketing's note tempts the AI to mention the $250 credit. Try: Add: "Offer no credit, gift or discount."
- Making a big ask. The AI asks for a case study, a review and an intro at once. Try: Say: "Ask for one introduction only."
- Writing a long email. The AI ignores her style and writes four paragraphs. Try: Give the limits: subject 6 words, under 85 words.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
