Open a renewal conversation without mentioning price
- For Customer success managers
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write the email that starts the renewal conversation with Joan. Line 1 is "Subject:" with 7 words or fewer. Exactly 3 sentences: one result, a request for a 30-minute call before Dec 4, and what you will bring. Do not mention price, discounts or the contract end date. Last line exactly "Ravi, Customer Success". Plain text.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Adding the discount. Finance's note pushes the AI to open with the 3% discount. Try: Add: "Do not mention price, discounts or the contract end date."
- Vague ask. The AI asks to 'catch up soon'. Try: Say: "Ask for 30 minutes before Dec 4."
- Wrong subject or sign-off. The AI writes a long subject and signs 'Cheers'. Try: Give the limits and the exact last line.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
