Show employees their yearly share of health premiums
Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
An employee asked what each plan tier costs them per year. For 2026 the company pays 80% of employee-only, 70% of employee + spouse, and 60% of family premiums (the plan sheet still shows last year's share). Write exactly 3 numbered lines, each as Tier: monthly premium x employee % = $X/mo x 12 = $Y/yr. Plain text, under 70 words, nothing else.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not giving the new shares. The AI uses the 2025 75% on the sheet. Try: Add: "2026 employer shares: 80%, 70%, 60%."
- Not asking to see the work. Employees trust numbers they can follow. Try: Add a line to copy: "1. Employee only: $500 x 20% = $100/mo x 12 = $1,200/yr"
- Giving advice. The AI weighs in on whether family coverage is worth it. Try: Add: "No plan advice. Just the costs."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 16 words."
- Forgetting where it goes. AI loves markdown tables and bold, which show up as clutter in an employee email. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, headings or tables."
What a strong prompt includes
