Compare post engagement by reach, leaving out the giveaway
Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're reporting which post format worked best last month. Your team's engagement rate is (likes + comments + shares) ÷ reach, not followers, and giveaway posts are left out because entries required comments. Write one numbered line per non-giveaway post (there are 3) showing that math, then one unnumbered last line: Best format: [format]. Plain text, under 70 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not defining the rate. The AI divides by followers or just compares likes, and Reels look best. Try: Add: "Engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares) ÷ reach."
- Counting the giveaway. The AI calls the giveaway the winner thanks to 1,200 entry comments. Try: Add: "Leave out the giveaway; comments were entries."
- Not asking to see the work. Bare percents hide which denominator was used. Try: Add a line to copy: "1. Reel: (420 + 30 + 50) ÷ 10,000 = 5%"
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 14 words."
- Forgetting where it goes. AI loves markdown tables and bold, which show up as clutter in a Slack message to the owner. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, headings or tables."
