Compare swim programs on cost per class you'll actually attend
Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You'll miss 2 weeks of either swim program for a family trip. Program B lets you book make-up classes for missed ones; Program A doesn't. Write exactly 2 numbered lines, each as Program: $price ÷ classes you'll actually attend = $X per class, then one unnumbered last line: Sign up: A or B. Plain text, under 60 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not mentioning the trip. The AI divides by all scheduled classes, so A looks cheaper at $18. Try: Add: "We'll miss 2 weeks."
- Ignoring make-ups. The AI takes classes off B too, though you can make them up. Try: Add: "B allows make-ups; A doesn't."
- Not asking to see the work. Per-class math is easy to fumble. Try: Add a line to copy: "1. A: $180 ÷ 8 = $22.50 per class"
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 12 words."
- Forgetting where it goes. AI loves markdown tables and bold, which show up as clutter in a family group text. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, headings or tables."
What a strong prompt includes
- Mentions the missed weeks
- Mentions make-ups
- Asks to show the math
- Sets a word limit
