Pick a user research tool with your team's weights
Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your team is choosing a user research tool. Your design lead set the weights: participant pool 50%, integrations 30%, price 20%. Apply the vendor update in the notes. Write exactly 3 numbered lines, one per tool, each showing every score x weight and the total, then one unnumbered last line: Pick: [tool]. Plain text, under 90 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not giving the weights. The AI weighs criteria equally and Voxly ties for the lead. Try: Add: "Weights: pool 50%, integrations 30%, price 20%."
- Missing the rescore. The AI uses Voxly's old pool score of 4. Try: Add: "Voxly's pool is now 2."
- Not asking to see the work. Your team will want to check the scoring. Try: Add a line to copy: "1. Panelpoint: 5 x 0.5 = 2.5, 2 x 0.3 = 0.6, 3 x 0.2 = 0.6; total 3.7"
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 22 words."
- Forgetting where it goes. AI loves markdown tables and bold, which show up as clutter in a product channel. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, headings or tables."
