Check sales per labor hour by shift before cutting hours
Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your target is $50 in sales per staff hour. The afternoon total includes a $300 catering order that was prepaid online and needed no staff, so take it out. Write exactly 3 numbered lines, one per shift, each as Shift: $sales ÷ staff hours = $X, then OK or BELOW, then one unnumbered last line: Trim hours on: [shifts below]. Plain text, under 70 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not removing the catering order. The AI counts the prepaid pickup, so the afternoon looks fine at $60. Try: Add: "Take the $300 prepaid catering out of the afternoon."
- Not giving the target. The AI can't mark OK or BELOW. Try: Add: "Target: $50 per staff hour."
- Not asking to see the work. Staff will want to see the math before hours change. Try: Add a line to copy: "1. Morning: $1,200 ÷ 12 = $100 OK"
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 12 words."
- Forgetting where it goes. AI loves markdown tables and bold, which show up as clutter in a note to your manager. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, headings or tables."
