Estimate what a price increase does to monthly revenue
Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're thinking about raising salon prices. Plan for losing 5% of clients in each service when prices go up. Write exactly 2 numbered lines, one per service, each showing new clients x new price vs current revenue = change, then one unnumbered last line: Net change: +$X/month. Plain text, under 60 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not giving a client loss. The AI assumes nobody leaves, like Bree, and overstates the gain. Try: Add: "Assume 5% of clients leave in each service."
- Not asking to see the work. A bare forecast is hard to trust. Try: Add a line to copy: "1. Haircut: 380 x $45 = $17,100 vs $16,000 = +$1,100"
- Mixing in other costs. The AI subtracts rent or adds product sales. Try: Add: "Only the two services. Nothing else."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 16 words."
- Forgetting where it goes. AI loves markdown tables and bold, which show up as clutter in your planning notes. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, headings or tables."
What a strong prompt includes
- Assumes a client loss
- Asks to show the math
- Asks for a net change
- Sets a word limit
- Asks for plain text
