About this exercise

Draft the October investor update email from your metrics sheet. The first line must be exactly "DRAFT - CFO to review before sending". Show the MRR growth as math inside the sentence, use the final churn figure (not preliminary), say plainly that the hiring target was missed, and make no predictions or promises about future numbers. Plain text, under 200 words, signed "Ines".

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • No review flag. The AI writes a ready-to-send email, and drafts like this can go out by mistake. Try: Say: "First line exactly: DRAFT - CFO to review before sending."
  • Hiding the math. The AI states "MRR grew 8%" with nothing an investor can check. Try: Add: "Show the growth as math in the sentence: Oct - Sep = change (percent)."
  • Grabbing the first churn number. The preliminary row comes first, so the AI uses 2.4%. Try: Add: "Use final figures only, never preliminary."
  • Spinning the misses and forecasts. The AI skips the missed hiring target and repeats the $500k guess as a plan. Try: Add: "State the missed hiring target plainly. No predictions or promises."
  • Markdown and long length. Investor updates come out with bold headings and run long. Try: Say: "Plain text, under 170 words, short sections."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Flags it as a draft
  • Asks to show the math
  • Says which figures to trust
  • Bans forecasts and spin
  • Sets length and format
