Show the cash and revenue effect of an annual prepay deal
- For FP&A and financial analysts
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
You're explaining an annual prepay offer to the sales director. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "Monthly plan:", "Annual prepay:", "Customer saves:", "Revenue each month:" and "Deferred after month 1:". Use the approved discount, not the rep's. Show the math. Under 100 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the rep's 20%. The AI takes the discount from the sales email. Try: Say: "Use the Deal Desk's approved 15%."
- Treating cash as revenue. The AI says revenue is $10,200 in month 1. Try: Add: "Revenue is recognized evenly over 12 months."
- Skipping the deferred line. The AI ends at monthly revenue. Try: Add: "Deferred after month 1 = cash - one month of revenue."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each part short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the five lines
- Uses the approved discount
- Separates cash and revenue
- Asks for the math
- Caps length
