About this exercise

You're prepping the CFO for the board's cash questions. Write a prompt for plain text with exactly three question-and-answer pairs, using these questions word for word: "Q1: What is year-end cash in the downside?", "Q2: Is that above our minimum?", "Q3: What does the credit line change?" Show the math. If two sources give different minimums, show both and say which source is the board-approved one without choosing for the CFO. Do not recommend drawing the line. Under 130 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Quoting only one minimum. The AI picks $3,000,000 or $3,500,000 and drops the other. Try: Add: "Show both minimums and label which is board-approved."
  • Recommending a draw. The AI suggests drawing the line. Try: Add: "Do not recommend drawing the line."
  • Rewording the questions. The AI paraphrases the three questions. Try: Add: "Use the questions word for word."
  • Skipping the subtraction. The AI says the downside is about $3.4M with no working. Try: Add: "Show the math in each answer."
  • Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each part short.

What a strong prompt includes
