About this exercise
You're sizing a price increase that takes effect when each customer renews. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "Original plan:", "Delayed plan:", "Impact of delay:" and "Check:". Each plan line shows each renewal group as monthly revenue x 10% x months remaining in FY27 (calendar year, from the effective month through December), then the total. The delay moves every effective month later by 2 months. Show the math. Under 130 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Miscounting months. The AI counts the months after the effective month or uses 12 for all. Try: Add: "Months remaining counts the effective month through December: 12, 9, 6 originally; 10, 7, 4 delayed."
- Trusting the sales memo. The AI repeats $100,000. Try: Add: "Do not use the sales memo's figure."
- Missing the check. The AI skips the second way of computing the loss. Try: Add: "Check: monthly increase of all groups x 2 months."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each part short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the four lines
- Counts months
- Shows the formula
- Asks for a check
- Caps length
