Compute product revenue mix after a reclass between products
- For FP&A and financial analysts
- You practice Catching mistakes and made-up facts
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
You're showing the product revenue mix to the CEO. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "Product A:", "Product B:", "Product C:" and "Total:". Each product line gives revenue and its share of the total as a whole-number percent, with the division shown. Use the corrected figures. Total confirms the shares add to 100%. Under 70 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the first-reported figures. The AI shows B 33% and C 17%. Try: Say: "Use the corrected figures after the Oct 30 reclass."
- Skipping the division. The AI shows only percentages. Try: Add: "Show revenue / total for each share."
- Missing the total check. The AI doesn't prove the shares add to 100%. Try: Add: "Total: the shares added together."
- Missing labels. The AI writes a table or paragraph. Try: Add: "Four lines with these exact labels in order."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each part short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the four lines
- Uses corrected figures
- Shows the division
- Asks for the total check
- Caps length
