About this exercise

You're reporting Q3 win rates to the sales leaders. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "Count win rate:", "Dollar win rate:", "Excluded:" and "Read:". Exclude no-decision deals (customer cancelled the project) from both rates. Count rate is won deals divided by won plus lost deals; dollar rate is won dollars divided by won plus lost dollars. Show the math. The Read line states the two rates and the gap in one sentence, as a fact, without saying which measure is better. Under 90 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Counting D5 as lost. The AI uses 4 of 8 and 50%. Try: Say: "Exclude no-decision deals from both rates."
  • Wrong dollar base. The AI divides won dollars by all dollars. Try: Add: "Dollar rate = won $ / (won $ + lost $)."
  • Picking a favorite. The AI says the dollar measure is more meaningful. Try: Add: "State both rates and the gap; do not say which is better."
  • Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each part short.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the four lines
  • Excludes no-decision
  • Gives the formulas
  • Bans a favorite
  • Caps length
