Check an AI-drafted staff email against your memo

Practice: Catching mistakes and made-up facts. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

You asked AI to turn your flu vaccine memo into a friendly email for the 3 North nurses, and you need to check the draft before you send it. Get a list of every place the draft disagrees with the memo or its later correction, as at most 3 sentences (one per error, each giving the right fact), in plain text, with no rewritten email. Don't flag anything the draft got right. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Asking "is this right?". The AI rewrites the whole email or mixes real errors with style tips, so the fixes get lost. Try: Say: "List only the facts that don't match the memo. Don't rewrite the email."
  • Forgetting the correction. The AI checks the draft against the main memo, where the pop-up date matches, and misses that the Oct 29 note moved it. Try: Add: "Check against the memo and its Oct 29 correction."
  • Letting it ramble. The AI explains each error in a paragraph when you just need the fix. Try: Add: "One sentence per error: what the draft says and what it should say."
  • Getting a formatted report. AI loves bold labels and headings, which clutter a quick check you want to paste into a note. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold or headings."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Says to compare with the memo
  • Mentions the correction
  • Limits each error to one sentence
  • Says not to rewrite the email
  • Asks for plain text
