  • Time about 5 minutes
  • Level Intermediate

About this exercise

Write a short memo for the People Team lead in plain text with exactly these headings on their own lines: Context, What we heard, What we do not know, Questions for the lead. Under 150 words. Do not name any departing employee. Under What we heard, give each theme with how many of the six interviews raised it. Under What we do not know, say that six interviews are too few to count as a trend.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using initials. The AI writes DK and RS in the memo. Try: Say: "Do not name or use initials for any departing employee."
  • Including gossip. The AI mentions more resignations. Try: Say: "Use only the interview notes."
  • No counts. The AI writes 'several people said'. Try: Say: "Give how many of the six interviews raised each theme."
  • Headings drift. The AI adds Recommendations. Try: Say: "Exactly these four headings in this order."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."
  • Markdown. The AI bolds words or adds headings. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
