Offer interview times in the candidate's time zone
Practice: Catching mistakes and made-up facts. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're emailing a candidate in Seattle to schedule a final interview. Write a short email under 80 words, plain text, with exactly 3 numbered time slots converted to Pacific Time and labeled PT. Only offer slots when all panelists are free, and ask the candidate to reply with a number.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Pasting the panel's times. The AI keeps Eastern Time because that's how the notes are written. Try: Add: "Convert every slot to Pacific Time and label it PT. No ET."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead: "each slot line under 10 words."
- Offering every slot. The AI lists all 6 slots without checking who's free. Try: Add: "Only slots where all 3 panelists are free, and none before 8am PT."
- Making replies hard. The AI asks 'let me know what works', so you get long replies. Try: Add: "Ask her to reply with the slot number."
What a strong prompt includes
- Converts the time zone
- Checks panel availability
- Sets the number of slots
- Asks for a numbered reply
- Sets a word limit
