About this exercise
Reply to Amara in plain text, under 100 words. First line exactly: Subject: Re: Parental leave questions. Answer only what the policy excerpt states: how many weeks, how much pay, and how to apply. For anything the excerpt does not cover, say you will check and name Hector in the People Team as the contact. Do not say whether she legally qualifies for anything. Last line exactly: Warmly, People Team. HR reviews before sending.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Old policy figures. The AI uses 8 weeks at 60%. Try: Say: "Use only the policy excerpt (Section 9, updated Jan 2026)."
- Guessing the unknown. The AI answers about splitting leave. Try: Say: "For anything not in the excerpt, say you will check and name Hector."
- Missing exact lines. The AI writes its own subject and sign-off. Try: Say: "First and last lines exactly as given."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."
- Markdown. The AI bolds words or adds headings. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes

- Policy only
