Answer PTO questions when two documents disagree
- For HR and recruiting
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Answer the three employee questions in the material as a Q&A in plain text: "Q: ..." then "A: ...". Each answer under 30 words. Where the two documents disagree, say which document you used and why (the newer one controls). If neither document answers (for example payout when someone leaves), the answer is exactly: Ask your People Partner. Do not give legal conclusions.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the old handbook. The AI says 5 days. Try: Say: "Where documents disagree, use the newer one and name it."
- Answering payout. The AI says PTO is not paid out. Try: Say: "If neither document answers, reply exactly: Ask your People Partner."
- Format. The AI writes paragraphs. Try: Say: "Three Q:/A: pairs in order."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."
- Markdown. The AI bolds words or adds headings. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
