Build a glossary for a Spanish article, meaning in context
- For College students
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You're reading a Spanish news article for class. Get exactly 6 numbered glossary lines for words in the article that aren't on your known-words list, formatted "1. word (noun/verb/adj) = meaning in this article", under 80 words, plain text. Give the meaning as used in this article, and watch for a false friend your professor warned you about.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Defining words you know. The AI glosses every hard-looking word, including ones on your list. Try: Add: "Skip the words on my known list."
- Falling for the false friend. A quick gloss may give 'actualmente' as 'actually', but it means 'currently'. Try: Add: "Give meanings as used in this article, and watch for false friends like actualmente."
- Dictionary meanings. The AI gives the first dictionary meaning, like 'works' for 'obras', not what it means here. Try: Add: "Meaning in this article, not the first dictionary meaning."
- No line shape. The AI makes a table with examples and notes for each word. Try: Show it: "1. obras (noun) = construction work"
- Forgetting where it's going. AI adds bold and headings that show up as stray symbols in your vocab notebook. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
