About this exercise
Fill in this transfer note for the new manager, with exactly these fields in this order, one per line, in plain text: Name:, Moving to:, Start date:, Current projects:, Open commitments:, HR topics:. Use the dates from the HR email, not the older ones in your notes. Leave out health, pay and personality opinions, and write exactly "Contact HR" in the HR topics field. Under 90 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the old start date. The AI takes May 5 from the notes. Try: Say: "Use the dates from the HR email, not the older ones."
- Adding sensitive details. The AI includes leave, pay and opinions. Try: Say: "Leave out health, pay and personality; HR topics: Contact HR."
- Changing the template. The AI adds fields and headings. Try: Say: "Exactly these six fields in this order, one per line."
- Markdown. The AI bolds the field names. Try: Say: "Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Lists the fields in order
- Says to prefer the HR email
- Excludes sensitive items
- Gives the exact HR line
- Plain text
