About this exercise

Write a message to post in the team chat inviting people to the sprint demo. Plain text, under 45 words. Open with the word "Demo:" and put the day, time and room in the first sentence. Name the two items being shown, and end with a single question asking people to react with a thumbs-up if they are coming. Do not use exclamation marks.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using the old time and room. The AI keeps Thursday and Room B. Try: Say: "Use the new day, time and room."
  • Mentioning the slipped item. The AI lists the login redesign or lunch. Try: Say: "Name only the two items being shown."
  • No question ending. The AI ends with a sign-off. Try: Say: "End with a single question asking for a thumbs-up."
  • Too long. The AI writes a full announcement. Try: Say: "Under 45 words."
  • Markdown or emoji bold. The AI bolds the time. Try: Say: "Plain text, no exclamation marks."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Starts with Demo:
  • Gives the new details
  • Names the two items
  • Asks for the thumbs-up question
  • Caps words
