Turn rambling standup notes into a three-label Slack post
- For Managers and team leads
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write a Slack post from the standup notes in plain text with exactly three lines starting Done:, Next:, Blocked:. Each line is under 14 words. Blocked names what you need, from whom and by when. Leave out small talk and anything already finished last week. No emojis.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Including finished work. The AI mentions the invoice export. Try: Say: "Leave out anything already finished last week."
- Vague blocker. The AI says "waiting on another team". Try: Say: "Blocked names what, from whom and by when."
- Small talk. The AI includes the coffee machine. Try: Say: "Leave out small talk."
- Wrong labels. The AI adds headings or bullets. Try: Say: "Exactly three lines starting Done:, Next:, Blocked:."
- Markdown. The AI bolds labels. Try: Say: "Plain text, no emojis."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."
