Read a property assessment notice and its appeal deadline
- For Small business owners
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
Your home's property assessment notice arrived. Get exactly 4 numbered lines in plain text, under 80 words: 1. the new assessed value, using the corrected figure; 2. the increase from last year, with the subtraction shown; 3. the appeal deadline as a date, with the date math; 4. "This isn't legal or tax advice." Use only the notice. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the corrected notice. The AI uses $326,000 from the first notice. Try: Add: "Use the corrected value, $312,000."
- No date math. The AI says "within 30 days" without a date. Try: Add: "Line 3: November 3 + 30 days = [date]."
- Guessing at taxes. The AI predicts your tax bill or echoes the neighbor's 20%. Try: Add: "Use only the notice. Line 4: This isn't legal or tax advice."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 80 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 16 words."
- Leaving the format to the AI. The AI adds a title, bold labels and sub-bullets, which turns a quick note into a page. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings, no intro."
