Introduce a new teammate without oversharing
Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Ana joins your team Monday, and you're introducing her in the team channel. Write it in under 70 words, plain text, saying what she'll own and who she'll work with first. Share only what Ana agreed to share, and leave out anything personal from your notes.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for 'a welcome announcement'. The AI writes a big, enthusiastic post with headings and fun facts. Try: Limit it: "Under 60 words, plain text, at most one exclamation point. Output only the post."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead: "3 sentences, each under 18 words."
- Leaving out the useful part. The AI welcomes her warmly but forgets what she owns and who she'll work with. Try: Add: "Say she owns payroll for the 3 Texas sites and shadows Deb first."
- Oversharing. Private details are in your notes, and the AI can't tell what she agreed to share. Try: Add: "Only share her role, experience and trail running. Nothing else personal."
