Write a webinar follow-up for people who didn't show up
Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your webinar "Pricing Pages That Convert" ran yesterday. This follow-up goes only to people who registered but didn't attend, so it must not thank them for coming. Start with a subject line that mentions the recording, include the recording link and the 3 key takeaways as at most 3 bullets, and leave out the cancelled discount code and internal details. Keep it under 120 words, plain text. Write a prompt that gets that email.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not saying who gets it. The AI assumes a follow-up goes to attendees and opens with "Thanks for joining us!", which is wrong for people who didn't come. Try: Say it: "This goes only to people who registered but did not attend. Don't thank them for attending."
- No subject line direction. The AI writes a generic subject like "Thanks for joining", and the recording, the reason to open it, isn't mentioned. Try: Add: "Start with a subject line under 8 words that mentions the recording."
- Copying everything from the notes. The AI treats the live offer as good news to share and misses the later note that it's cancelled. It may also leak internal stats. Try: Add: "Leave out the cancelled WEBINAR20 code and internal details like attendance and audio problems."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 120 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead, like "each line under 15 words," so the total lands well under 120.
- Too many bullets and bold. AI turns every section into bullets with bold headings, which look broken in many email tools. Try: Add: "Only the 3 takeaways as bullets. Plain text, no bold."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says who it's for
- Asks for a subject line
- Includes the recording
- Leaves out the cancelled offer
- Sets a word limit
