Invite customers to an advisory board session

Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

You're inviting 6 customers to a product advisory session. Write the email with a 'Subject:' line naming the date, then a body under 100 words in total, plain text, with exactly 3 numbered details: when (with the time zone), what you'll ask of them, and what they get. Use the corrected time, and don't share the unreleased roadmap or other customers' names.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • No date in the subject. The AI writes a generic subject like 'You're invited!' that gets lost. Try: Add: "Subject line with the date, Thursday, Apr 16."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 18 words."
  • Using the old time. 1:00pm appears first, with the update below it. Try: Add: "The session is 2:00-3:00pm ET (updated)."
  • Burying the details. The AI writes paragraphs, and the ask and reward get lost. Try: Add: "Exactly 3 numbered details: when, what we ask, what you get. Plain text."
  • Over-sharing. The AI teases the roadmap or names other firms to sound exclusive. Try: Add: "No roadmap, no other invitees. Ask for RSVP by Apr 9."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Uses the updated time
  • Lists the three details
  • Keeps confidential items out
