Find which support macros a product release breaks
Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Product sent release notes for next week, and you need to know which of your team's saved reply macros must be updated. You want exactly 3 numbered lines, each as macro name - what to change, under 50 words, plain text. Only include changes customers will see, and skip the internal-only changes. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Listing every release note. The AI summarizes all six changes, including internal ones. Try: Add: "Only customer-visible changes that affect our macros."
- Not matching to macros. The AI lists changes without saying which macro to fix. Try: Add: "Each line: macro name - what to change."
- Getting details wrong. The AI says free plans drop to 3 for everyone. Try: Add: "Use the exact details from the release notes."
- Letting the AI pick the layout. The AI writes a table with headings. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 3 numbered lines, plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 50 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 11 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many lines
- Matches to macros
- Customer-visible only
- Shows the line shape
- Sets a word limit
