Approve or return expense claims against the policy
Practice: Catching mistakes and made-up facts. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You review expense claims for your team before payroll. You want exactly 4 numbered lines, one per claim, each as name - Approve or Return - reason under 8 words, under 50 words, plain text. Apply the policy in your notes, including the corrected meal limit. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the correction. The $55 limit is in the policy list. Try: Add: "The meal limit is now $70."
- Not checking dates. The AI checks amounts but not the 30-day rule. Try: Add: "Check each claim against the 30-day rule."
- Missing the receipt rule. The AI approves Dev's lunch because it's under the limit. Try: Add: "Receipts required over $25."
- Letting the AI pick the layout. The AI makes a table. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 4 numbered lines like '1. Ana - Approve - under $70 meal limit'. Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 50 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 8 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many lines
- Uses the correction
- Checks the 30-day rule
- Checks receipts
- Shows the line shape
