Turn a recruiter call into your own dated to-do list
Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You just finished a call with a recruiter about a role, and you scribbled notes. You want exactly 4 numbered lines, each as task - due date (weekday and date), under 45 words, plain text. Turn 'end of week' into the real date, use the new interview date she gave at the end, and leave out her small talk. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Keeping vague dates. The AI writes 'end of week'. Try: Add: "The call was Mon Jan 12, so end of week is Fri Jan 16."
- Using the old interview date. Jan 20 is written out first. Try: Add: "The interview moved to Thu Jan 22."
- Including her tasks and chat. The AI lists Bree sending the JD and the office dog. Try: Add: "Only my tasks. Skip small talk."
- Letting the AI pick the layout. The AI writes a paragraph or checklist with headings. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 4 numbered lines, plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 45 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 8 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many lines
- Converts the date
- Uses the new interview date
- Only my tasks
- Sets a word limit
