Turn a policy memo into a 6-slide deck outline

About this exercise

Your manager wants the new desk-booking memo turned into a 6-slide outline for Monday's all-hands. Use exactly these slide titles in this order: Why we're changing, What changes for you, How to book a desk, Timeline, What stays the same, Questions. Write each slide as a numbered title line followed by exactly 3 bullets starting with "- ", plain text, under 230 words total. The launch date moved since the memo was first written, so use the current one.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Letting the AI name the slides. The AI invents its own slide titles and order, often adding an intro and a thank-you slide. Try: List them: "Use exactly these 6 titles in this order: Why we're changing, What changes for you, ..."
  • Uneven bullets. The AI packs some slides with 5 bullets and gives others 1 or 2. Try: Add: "Exactly 3 bullets per slide, each starting with '- '."
  • Using the old date. The memo body says March 3, and the AI copies it without reading the follow-up. Try: Add: "Use the March 17 go-live from Odette's follow-up."
  • Markdown slides. The AI writes bold titles and '###' headings that don't paste cleanly. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold or headings."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting words, so a total word cap usually lands over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each bullet under 8 words."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the 6 slide titles
  • Sets 3 bullets per slide
  • Uses the moved date
  • Asks for plain text
  • Caps the length
