- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
Turn the lab safety handout into a 6-slide deck outline for your 9th-grade biology class. Use these titles in order: Why safety matters, What to wear, Handling glass, Chemicals, If something goes wrong, Quick check. Each title is a numbered line followed by exactly 3 bullets starting with "- ", each bullet under 8 words and written for 14-year-olds. The goggle rule changed this year, so use the new rule. Plain text, under 200 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Copying the handout's words. The AI keeps 'don', 'reagents' and 'prior to' from the formal handout. Try: Add: "Write for 14-year-olds. Don't use don, reagents, prior to or designated."
- Old goggle rule. The handout says goggles are optional for microscope labs. Try: Add: "New rule: goggles in every lab, no exceptions."
- Letting the AI pick slides. The AI writes its own titles and bullet counts. Try: List the 6 titles and say: "exactly 3 bullets per slide."
- Markdown slides. The AI uses bold titles and headings. Try: Add: "Plain text, bullets start with '- '."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting words, so a total word cap usually lands over. Try: Cap each bullet: "each bullet under 8 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says who the slides are for
- Names the slide titles
- Uses the new rule
- Sets the bullet count
