Make a question bank table with what to listen for
- For Managers and team leads
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Using the competencies in the notes, write a table with the header Competency | Question | Listen for | Red flag. One row per competency, in the order given. Every question starts with "Tell me about a time". Listen for and Red flag are each under 10 words and describe job-related behavior only. Red flag is never about appearance, accent, age, family, health or personal background. Plain text, no bold. The same questions are asked of every candidate.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Including the rejected suggestions. The AI asks about overtime and kids. Try: Say: "Use only the agreed competencies; no questions about family or build."
- Not behavioral. The AI asks hypotheticals. Try: Say: "Every question starts Tell me about a time."
- Table shape. The AI adds scoring columns. Try: Say: "Header exactly as given, three rows in order."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."
- Markdown. The AI bolds words or adds headings. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
