Pull three job market takeaways for a career-change group
Practice: Saying who it's for. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You run a career-change support group and want to share what the county's labor report says about local hiring. You want at most 3 bullets in plain text, each naming one occupation and its revised number, using only the county report and its revised figures. Don't add national trends or advice.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the preliminary numbers. The first table is the easiest to read, and the AI often skips the revision notice below it. Try: Say: "Use the Oct 30 revised figures where they exist."
- Adding outside trends. The AI likes to frame local data with national job trends it remembers. Try: Add: "Only facts from the county report."
- Turning it into coaching. Because you mentioned career changers, the AI adds advice and pep talk. Try: Say: "Only the bullets. No advice."
- Not capping the list. The AI lists everything it finds, so the few points that matter get buried. Try: Say: "at most 3 bullets."
- Getting markdown back. AI defaults to bold labels and headings, which show up as stray symbols in a group text. Try: Ask for "plain text, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Uses the revised figures
- Says to use only your sources
- Caps the list
- Fixes each bullet's shape
- Asks for plain text
