Check a chatbot-written About Us against your org's records

Practice: Catching mistakes and made-up facts. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

A chatbot drafted an About Us paragraph for your animal shelter's new website, and you want to check its claims against your records. You want one numbered line per claim, under 60 words total, labeled Accurate, Wrong, or No record, with the correct fact after any Wrong label. Use only your records, plain text, nothing else.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Trusting the draft. Chatbot copy sounds sure of itself and blends real facts with made-up ones. Try: Say: "Check each claim against our records only."
  • Calling bragging rights wrong. 'Largest in the state' isn't in your records, so it's unproven rather than wrong. Try: Add: "If the records don't cover it, label it No record."
  • Getting a rewrite. The AI writes a new About Us, and you can't see what was off. Try: Say: "Label only, no rewrite."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands 10-20% over. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 10 words."
  • Getting markdown back. AI defaults to bold labels and headings, which show up as stray symbols in your website notes. Try: Ask for "plain text, no bold, no headings."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the source
  • Asks for the correct fact
